Picking my way through the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! / !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! guides that were recently "leaked" I finally get an idea of dimensions.

Kinja'd!!!

I've !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about how compact trucks are indeed still compact but at that time I was guessing for the dimensions on the New GM twins but I now have the figures for comparison.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A Colorado long bed 4x4 crew cab in comparison to the class champ Toyota Tacoma is different in the following dimensions:

.1 inch shorter wheelbase

3.7 inches longer overall

.4 inches narrower

.3 inches higher

with 69 more hp (at higher rpms) and 3 more ft-lbs (again at higher rpms)

The unknowns remain mileage and weight.

As you can see, size is very much holding steady with very little bloat (and in some cases shrinkage) from the nearly decade old Tacoma. The only difference is in the interior, where the slightly larger Tacoma is better head, hip and leg room in almost every category with the exception of rear leg room and front hip room.

Also interesting to note is that the minimum ground clearance is almost a full inch less that the Tacoma.

This isn't going to be what the Chevy Luv'ers want to hear, but it does mean that the substantial looking trucks aren't actually going to be THAT big, which reinforces something I've been blue in the face telling people; YES THEY ARE SMALLER THAN FULL SIZE TRUCKS, EVEN OLDER MODELS.

This "Chevy luv'er" (I see what you did there lol) is happy about it. I want a smaller truck with 4 doors and decent gas mileage. I can only hope they follow through with that last statement. Going with the V6 they are using as opposed to the 4.3L HAD to be a mileage decision.

As many others have said, I hope it sells well and that Toyota finally gets around to a mechanical update for the Tacoma. I prefer the Tacoma overall, but it needs some more oomph. I do like the looks at the GM twins, though.

I still don't get that one, cause the 4.3 is physically smaller and lighter and frankly, gets pretty great mileage in the new silverado...my guess is they wanted:

1. zero cross shopping

2. lower NVH for a more "car like" experience.

oh stop it.

Does it look a little close to the VW truck? Sure

but the global Ford Ranger does too, they all do. It's what happens when you give a little concern to aerodynamics on a light pickup, it ends up with rounded front corner and a stubby bed.

if it gets the MPG it needs i couldn't care less. My hope is to get one of these in a few years, it's biggest towing duties would be a 5k pound trailer once or twice a year, which it should happily handle with a 7k limit (which I wouldn't pull 7k with it anyhow).

After that I just want a nice Daily Driver that can run small things over with little concern lol.

BTW I'm a big 4.3L fan, and have owned both of the prior generations in an 88 s10 blazer 2 door -TBI version and a vortec set up in on 04 4 door blazer.

Great motors, lots of grunt. These have over 100 more hp than the 4.3L's I'm used to, sure it comes at a higher RPM like a car but the power is there.

The Tacoma needs only 3 things to be super competative:

1. the dual VVT-i engine from the 4runner (270 hp and 278 ft-lbs vs 236 hp and 266 ft-lbs for the single VVT-i engine currently)

2. a better less cheap dash

3. a 6 speed auto.

Nothing else needs changing AT ALL.

could have also been a capacity/utilization issue with their production facilities. Although from what I understand the 4.3 is selling well in the Silverado.

The torque peak on the 3.6 is pretty great actually, but I still think the 4.3 would have been a better truck motor. large displacement and low end torque are the biggest redeeming values of the Tacoma engine. Either way, this should fit the bill. You'll be stressing this thing out with 5000 lbs still I think, but at least the chassis should be able to deal with it. Something tells me that 7000 lbs number isn't with the new SAE rating.

The Amorok is the saddest looking truck I've ever seen go off-road, even kitted out it looks so tippy and out of place. Pass.

I hope so, its a killer engine and I love the fact that you get a big power bump on e85...finally a use for that crap. It would be nice to switch fuels for a big power gain when towing real heavy loads (even if your mileage takes a dump). On a related note, the 4.56/33 inch gear/tire combo worked great towing the 3300 lbs popup over the mountains this weekend.

I agree, precisely the mechanical upgrades I was speaking of.

lol it should do better than the Mercury Mountaineer V6 (RWD) that my in-laws pull it with currently that has a max of 5,000 at least.

They are going to use my brother in laws new (very used) Ranger that supposedly has a max tow of 6k I think this year.

better than the Mountaineer I guess, but when/if I get one of these in a few years it'll take over those duties. At least the camper doesn't move much and we don't load anything into it to add to the weight.

It will cream the cruiser in towing duties too if and when the diesel replaces it.

I pulled a 3300-3500 popup over the mountains here this last weekend...whew. WE made it without trouble but 212 hp for 9000 lbs of combined vehicle. Even the 4.56 gears could only do so much. Funny true story, the i6 in the cruiser has more torque than this new 3.6, and VERY low down on the tach....but a little extra hp sure would be nice.

Just as long as I can get the diesel with 2wd when that comes out.

I meant to say not selling well. They have been putting massive cash on the hood to move the V6 models.

Glad to hear she towed well!

I6's tend to be that way lol

and one of the best parts about our towing duties is that it's 100% flat.

we can even avoid highways and take almost deserted side roads at 55 mph.
